„Little Dance” is a short dance film inspired by the matter of construction of female images in the dance art, while exploring the ideas of collectivity, individualism and sisterhood. It’s a dancing affirmation of female diversity, strength and synergy and at the same time the demonstration of talent of four exceptional young female dancers. Until the beginning of the 18th century, the development of the dance technique, on which court shows and virtuoso displays were based, were fields of activity reserved for men. Heavy crinolines and high-heeled shoes prevented women from performing most of the common dance steps. Marie Camargo not only reformed women's costume by shortening the dress, discarding the crinoline and uncomfortable shoes. She has also, for the first time in history, performed entrechats and cabrioles jumps, which used to be a male domain. She proved that women were not less capable of physical exertion (or other things) and that the main obstacle for them was the artificially imposed convenances.
